STOP - DON'T JUMP!

Whether fact or fiction, I love a good story, a little bit of risk, a heart-led intention, all backed by an audacious dream! Ahhhhh, I look longingly upward, rubbing my palms in eager anticipation - the excitement, the fear, the success! It's irrelevant if the journey to achieving the dream is real or written, the hopefulness keeps me wanting more.

I’ve been lucky to experience some of these big, jump-in-two-feet-at-a-time dreams in my life, led often by feeling and faith:

  • Having a baby at 19 (best big jump EVER)
  • My husband surprising me with a signed house-build one birthday and our wedding for Christmas (nope, no idea it was coming until he was on one knee, a bouquet of flowers were placed in my arms, a wreath on my head and a ring placed on my finger)
  • Taking a chance on owning and operating a preschool - then a second - starting an online membership and buying our dream home, all without certainty or security that the leap would work. As I said, just feeling and faith.

Seriously, how exciting is it when you hear someone talk about their dreams coming true? Seeing it on the big screen (these movies are box office hits for a reason), reading it in a book (hint: Believe It) or watching your friend hit their goal weight, finish their uni degree or start a small biz. It’s darn exciting and makes my heart race and speaking volume increase. I don’t know if it’s my Enneagram Seven-ness or if you feel the same too, but don’t you just want to dance with joy when you witness a big win? A dream coming true? And in all honesty, I think my secret super-power is seeing the greatness in others, so to champion them on chasing their dreams is a no-brainer for me.

But…. I have a caveat.

There are times I don't want to cheer my people on. There are times I want to say ‘STOP – don’t jump. Maybe you should lean instead.'

This was a conversation I had with a friend recently and it was over the topic of identity & what’s next for her life. When it comes to your future – especially your future self – it doesn’t need to be all or nothing and you don’t need to have all the answers now.

If you DID have all the answers now, you’d already be her, right?

What will best serve you is having a vision to guide you,

followed by a compassionate and curious ‘leaning in’.

It's not uncommon to hear women feel lost or purposeless, women who wake up and wonder:

  • Where’s the person I used to be?
  • Will I ever be her again?
  • Who am I now?

“What am I interested in? How do I want to spend my time? With who? Doing what?” These questions are re-iterated by mothers around the world.

You’re a complex, layered and unique individual. You’re you – in times of certainty and in times of doubt, you’re still YOU! If you feel a pull toward something more, like something's missing inside you, I WANT you to dream big. I want you to design a vision that ignites you back to life! Just don’t think you have to jump from a cliff to make it happen. The small layered steps of leaning into the dream (into HER, that future vision of you) will allow your heart, mind, body and soul to join you, all in perfect synchronicity.

Time will allow assimilation and alignment to the most you your new you can be.

Life’s not meant to be solved or won in a day. It’s a game to play forever - or at least as long as we're gifted it. Let’s lean in with compassion, care and intention.
